Rupi Kaur's book 'The Sun and Her Flowers" is a collection of poetry centered around feminist themes and self-love. This redesign focuses on aligning the cover art with the illustrations in the book.
The original cover and the illustrations in the book are created by Rupi Kaurr; however, the cover art is stylistically inconsistent with the art inside her book.
For the redesign, the intent was to modernize her style of illustration.
The first step was to create multiple sketches that could be further iterated. The sketches were thematically based on the content of the book and aims to create abstract realism.
Next, various iterations of differing line thickness and typography were applied to match Rupi Kaur's illustrative style.
The final outcome is modern and abstract with a hint of realism!
